November 12, 2023:  What God Hates Most

11/12/2023

"There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to him: haughty eyes." Proverbs 6:16

It is hard to think about God hating, but it is a powerful emotion when He does! The thing to note is that when God hates, it is linked to love. At the opposite end of His hatred is a love so deep that it is unfathomable. Proverbs 6:16 tells us that the Lord hates several things, the first of which is haughty eyes—eyes that see themselves above others. Let us let the Word speak for itself:
  • "Pride and arrogance and the way of evil and perverted speech I hate." Proverbs 8:13
  • "God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble." James 4:6
  • "Everyone who is arrogant in heart is an abomination to the Lord; be assured, he will not go unpunished." Proverbs 16:5.
  • "Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall." Proverbs 16:18.
  • "In the pride of his face, the wicked does not seek him; all his thoughts are, "There is no God." Psalm 10:4.
It is obvious what God thinks about pride.

What He loves is the heart that boasts in the Lord. He loves the heart that gives Him credit for what he alone can do. He loves the heart that relies on His power and thrives on His compassion. He loves the heart that wants Him to receive all the glory in all things. He loves the one who wants the power of His Son to shine in our weakness!
