I Will Heal

090712 God is Willing Tim Franklin Introduction: · We need to understand God’s willingness to help us. o Some people think that God is mad at them. o Some people think that God wants them to do something. o Some people think that God does not like them. o Way to many of us underestimate God’s willingness. · I believe God is willing to heal! Do you believe that today? o Did God change? Did He decide to no longer heal? · Let’s take a look at God’s willingness today. · Why do I know God is willing? #1 He has cut a covenant with us. #2 He said He was willing. 1. I Have Covenanted To Heal A. The Power of Covenant. i. A covenant is a binding agreement. It usually has three parts. a. Command-that which is require. b. Promise-the blessings given as a result of obedience to the command c. Reward-is the renewal of ongoing covenant because of the first two. ii. Covenants are usually cut with the shedding of blood. (sacrifice) B. Examples of: It is the nature and heart of God to make covenant with a weaker lesser people. i. Gen 9:9-17 Rainbow. God makes a covenant with Noah. ii. Gen 15:18 God cuts a covenant with Abraham iii. Ex 6:4-5 God remembered his covenant with Israel. Moses iv. Dt. 28 the covenant chapter. v. Mt 26:28 Blood of the new covenant. Jesus. Jesus cut the covenant with the Father. He was the only one to not sin. a. Heb 7:22 Jesus has become a surety of a better covenant. NKJV C. Exodus 15:26 and said, "If you diligently heed the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the Lord who heals you." NKJV i. Jehovah Rapha--One of seven covenant names of God. a. First covenant name of God given after the Red Sea experience. (i) Yahweh/Jehovah – The self existent One who reveals Himself. (ii) Rapha – I am the One who heals. ii. This was a major shadow of things to come. a. If healing is in this covenant name of God, them Christ had to heal and he has to empower his church to do so too. b. James 5:14-16 Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.15 And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.16 Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. NKJV Note once again: forgiveness of sin and healing are together in the atonement. 2. I Am Willing to Heal A. Matthew 8:1-3 (Mark 1:40-45; Luke 5:12-16) When He had come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed Him. 2 And behold, a leper came and worshiped Him, saying, "Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean." 3 Then Jesus put out His hand and touched him, saying, "I am willing; be cleansed." Immediately his leprosy was cleansed. NKJV B. Willing, Greek—theloo i. to be resolved or determined, to purpose, I am ready: Rom 9:16 ii. equivalent to to desire, to wish: ‎ti‎, Matt 20:21 iii. equivalent to to love; followed by an infinitive, to like to do a thing, be fond of doing: Mark 12:38; Luke 20:46 iv. in imitation of the Hebrew ‎chaapeets‎, to take delight, have pleasure (from Thayer's Greek Lexicon, Electronic Database. Isaiah 53:4-5 Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted. 5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed. NKJV ii. Isa 53:4-5Surely He has borne our griefs (sicknesses, weaknesses, and distresses) and carried our sorrows and pains [of punishment], yet we [ignorantly] considered Him stricken, smitten, and afflicted by God [as if with leprosy]. [Matt 8:17.]5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our guilt and iniquities; the chastisement [needful to obtain] peace and well-being for us was upon Him, and with the stripes [that wounded] Him we are healed and made whole. AMP 1. Believe to Be Healed A. To receive from God we must simply believe. i. Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast. NKJV a. We get God’s ability. That is what grace is. Grace is God’s ability in me to do what I cannot do in and of myself. b. It comes through faith. Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. NKJV Everything we receive from God comes through faith. B. Jesus speaks: i. Matt 9:28And when He had come into the house, the blind men came to Him. And Jesus said to them, "Do you believe that I am able to do this?" NKJV Jesus asks then not because He needs to know but that they would know now and forever this is how you receive from God—Believe. ii. Mark 5:36-38 As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, He said to the ruler of the synagogue, "Do not be afraid; only believe." And He permitted no one to follow Him except Peter, James, and John the brother of James. NKJV iii. Mark 9:23Jesus said to him,"If you can believe,all things are possible to him who believes." NKJV Lord I believe, help my unbelief. iv. John 20:29 Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed." NKJV C. Jesus affirms: “to make firm, establish, to declare the existence of something.” Websters 1828 Dictionary. Jesus establishes and declares what they have already experienced by faith. i. Matthew 9:22 But Jesus turned around, and when He saw her He said, "Be of good cheer, daughter; your faith has made you well." And the woman was made well from that hour. NKJV Woman with issue of blood. ii. Matt 8:10-11 "Assuredly, I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel! NKJV Centurion iii. Matthew 9:29 Then He touched their eyes, saying, "According to your faith let it be to you." NKJV iv. "Understanding is the reward of faith. Therefore, seek not to understand that thou mayest believe, but believe that thou mayest understand." St Augustine-Early Church Father Conclusion: · If you have been mad at God--come. · If you have working to get God to do something--come. · If you have thought that God just does not care/or He does not like you—come.
