090408 Session 11 Rev 15 and 16 Bowls of Wrath Chronological Section iv Tim Franklin Introduction: · Review o Second coming procession is initiated in the last trumpet. Three stages § The procession across the sky: rapture of the church § The procession on the land: traveling through Jordan § The procession into Jerusalem: to the mount of Olives, followed by His coronation. o The seals and trumpets are judgments used to allow men to repent and for the bride to be perfected as she prays, preaches, proclaims His soon return. § The judgments are not aimed at the saints. They are aimed at the antichrist structures for the purpose of pulling them down and for allowing the world more time to repent. God is using the least sever means to reach the greatest number of people at the deepest level of love without violating anyone’s free will. o The seven bowls of wrath are just that. It is not judgment with the intention of calling men to Christ. It is the anger of God released on humanity that has refused His Son. 1. Who is this One Who Comes? a. This is the fourth chronological section of our outline for the book of Revelation. i. Rev 15 & 16 ii. It will be followed by an angelic response or explanation of the things that John is seeing. b. The Bowls of wrath reveal the 7 judgments that Jesus releases against the antichrist’s empire as Jesus marches through Edom (modern day Jordan). This march is part of his procession to His entry to Jerusalem. i. Isa 63:1-6Who is this who comes from Edom, (modern Jordan) With dyed garments from Bozrah, This One (Jesus) who is glorious in His apparel, Traveling in the greatness of His strength? — "I (Jesus) who speak in righteousness, mighty to save." Why is Your apparel red, And Your garments like one who treads in the winepress? "I have trodden the winepress alone, And from the peoples no one was with Me. For I have trodden them in My anger, And trampled them in My fury; Their blood is sprinkled upon My garments, And I have stained all My robes. For the day of vengeance is in My heart, And the year of My redeemed has come. I looked, but there was no one to help, And I wondered That there was no one to uphold; Therefore My own arm brought salvation for Me And My own fury, it sustained Me. I have trodden down the peoples in My anger, Made them drunk in My fury, And brought down their strength to the earth." NKJV c. As Jesus travels across Edom (seems to be the route that Moses took) He destroys the nations and the Antichrist empire that if filled with evil. (Ps. 2:8-9; IS. 11:4, 15; 19:22; Rev 2:26-27; 19:15) i. Rev 19:11-16 Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him … He judges and makes war. 13 He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, …And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean,* followed Him on white horses. 15 … He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. 16 And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS. NKJV d. David prophesied that when the Messiah came to earth to receive the nations as His inheritaince that He would need to break them and even destroy their infrastructure to pieces. i. Psalms 2:8-9 Ask of Me, and I will give You The nations for Your inheritance, And the ends of the earth for Your possession. 9 You shall break them with a rod of iron; You shall dash them to pieces like a potter's vessel.'" NKJV e. Isaiah prophesied that when the Messiah came He would march through the land and slay the wicked. i. Isaiah 11:4 But with righteousness He shall judge the poor, And decide with equity for the meek of the earth; He shall strike the earth with the rod of His mouth… slay the wicked. NKJV f. Habakkuk prophesied that when the Messiah came He would march through the land in victory. i. Habakkuk 3:3-13 God came from Teman, The Holy One from Mount Paran (near modern Jordan). Selah His glory covered the heavens, And the earth was full of His praise. 4 His brightness was like the light; He had rays flashing from His hand, And there His power was hidden. 5 Before Him went pestilence, And fever followed at His feet. …He and startled the nations. And the mountains were scattered…8 Your anger against the rivers, Was Your wrath against the sea, … The sun and moon stood still … 12 You marched through the land in indignation; You trampled the nations in anger. 13 You went forth for the salvation of Your people... Selah NKJV g. Jesus releases the 7 bowl judgment that is similar to Moses 10 plagues of Egypt. These bowls will be poured out over a 30 day period as Jesus marches through Jordan to fight the final battle in the Armageddon campaign in Jerusalem and rescue the unsaved remnant of Israel. 2. The Context for the Release of the 7 Bowls of Wrath a. In Rev. 15:1-4 John sees those who were victorious over the Antichrist, singing on the sea of glass. b. Ez. Saw a firmament or expanse of awesome crystal (sea of glass) before the throne of Jesus. i. Ez 1:22-26 The likeness of the firmament…was like…awesome crystal..26 Above the firmament…the likeness of the Throne ws ..a Man (Jesus) high above it. NKJV c. Before this event was the sounding of the 7^th trumpet that started the 2^nd Coming Procession and the rapture and rewarding of the saints. Jesus then begins a ‘hostile takeover’ of all the governments and this ‘ticks off’ the nations of the earth. i. Rev. 11:15-18. Vs 18 the nations were angry…and you should destroy those who destroy the earth. NKJV ii. Mt. 24:29-31 d. Paul made it clear the rapture takes place at the Last Trumpet which is the 7^th trumpet. i. I Cor. 15:51-52 ii. 1 Thes 4:16-17 e. Jesus raptures the church to initiate His Second Coming Procession. The last 3 ½ years of the tribulation is almost over. Now remain 30 days of the pouring out of the bowls of wrath. 3. The Bowls of Wrath a. Angels take their places in preparation of the releasing of the bowls of wrath b. First Bowl—sores Rev 16:2 i. The sores will be foul with odor—I would assume as with rotting meat. ii. There is no mention of seal of protection because saints have been raptured. Rev. 7:3; 9:4. iii. The sixth plagues of Egypt was sores or boils. Ex 9:8-11. Moses in Dt. 28:35 warned that rebellion against God would bring a judgment of boils. c. Second Bowl (Food Supply) Rev 16:3. All of the creatures of the sea will die. That will create a stench no other. Up to this point only 1/3^rd has been destroyed, as in the second trumpet. d. Third Bowl (Water supply). Rev. 16:4-7, the earths fresh water supply is poisoned with blood. The third trumpet is similar (Rev. 8:10) to the third bowl in that it defiles drinking water. The first plague of Egypt struck the Nile with similar impact as this (Ex 7:19-21). e. Fourth Bowl (Torment). Rev. 16:8-9 is a supernatural act of scorching heat from the sun. i. Men blaspheme God vs. 11,12. This bowl will intensify the heat of the sun. The sun is not blocked as it was earlier and things become colder it is intensified and the earth is scorched. f. Fifth Bowl. (Destruction) Rev 16:10-11. Darkness on the Antichrist empire. i. The antichrists throne is a geographical region holding the seat of his government. Rev. 13:2. ii. Is 60:1-2: Speaks of deep darkness covering the earth. iii. Ex. 10:21-23 The ninth plague of Egypt caused darkness for three days. iv. The deep hatred of God by Antichrist worships is revealed. Vs. 9,11 g. Sixth Bowl (Total Demonization) Rev. 16:12-16. Demons lure the nations to fight against Jesus—Armageddon. i. The nations come to fight Jesus as He marches to Jerusalem. They are not gathering from around the world to fight against little Israel, they come to fight Jesus. 1. Rev. 17:14 These (10 kings) will make war with the Lamb… King of Kings. 2. Rev 19:19-21 I saw the beast (Antichrist), the kings of the earth, and the armies, gathered together to make war against Him who sat on the hoarse and against His Army. ii. This is global blasphemy against the Spirit as the nations receive and believe “the Lie” 1. 2 Thes. 2:11 ‘…for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the Lie. NKJV 2. The kings of the nations have urgency to gather because of Jesus’ sign in the sky. Jesus sign will be understood as an open challenge to the Antichrist and his armies. Mt. 24:30 h. Seventh Bowl (Annihilation) Rev. 16:17-21 Earthquakes and Hail Stones i. Shaking by earthquakes and hail stones 100 lbs. ii. Men are blaspheming God. 16:21. iii. Zechariah 14:12,15. Those who attack Jerusalem. What the angels pours out is probably the cause of the plague found in this vs. of Zechariah. iv. Huge Hailstones 1. Released in first trumpet Rev. 8:7 2. 7^th plague with Moses Ex. 9:23-24 3. God uses hail in Josh. 10:11; Is 18:17; Ez 38:22-23 v. Moses law required the stoning to death of idol worshipper (Dt. 17:2-5; Lev 24:16) Since the anitchrists worship movement is idolatry—Jesus will stone them to death with 100 hail stones. 1. Deuteronomy 13:6-11 "If your brother, the son of your mother, your son or your daughter, the wife of your bosom, or your friend who is as your own soul, secretly entices you, saying, 'Let us go and serve other gods,' … 10 And you shall stone him with stones until he dies, because he sought to entice you away from the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage. 11 So all Israel shall hear and fear, and not again do such wickedness ... NKJV · Conclusion: The next event following the 7 bowls is Jesus triumphal entry into Jerusalem. Rev. 19:11-chapter 21. Next week will look at the angelic response to what John has just seen.
