080409w When God Fights For You Tim Franklin II Chron 20:17 Introduction: · We are in a new series on Wednesday nights—When God Fights for You. Tonights is part 3. · I want to begin to position us for the upcoming children’s conference as we begin praying into it and our future. · I want to also equip you to fight your own personal battles. We are all involved in the big picture but I think we forget as believes following the main directive that we have our personal hand to hand battles getting to the thing the Commander in Chief calls the objective. · The battles I like the best are the ones that the Lord is fighting for me! · In II Chron 20:15 Jahaziel prophesies “Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours but God’s.” vs. 17, “You will not need to fight in this battle.” · Jahaziel gives us three things we must do to see the Lord fight for us.—Postion Yourselves, Stand Firm, Believe! · We began with three directives: Position yourself, stand firm and believe. Lets go deeper. 1. Why Stand? a. The natural tendency when confronted by danger is to run, become fearful, panic etc. fight or flight. i. This means moving into the flesh by reacting to situations rather than responding. It looks like Gal. 5:20 “hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions.” When soldiers panic people get killed. That is part of the reason they drill and drill and drill so that when the situation arises they will respond in the way they have been trained. ii. When the body of Christ is not in the place of faith it panics. b. To stand still is to say we are not panicking. i. Ex 14:13 And Moses said to the people,"Do not be afraid. Stand still , and see the salvation of the LORD, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever. NKJV ii. Job 37:14 "Listen to this, O Job; Stand still and consider the wondrous works of God. 15 Do you know when God dispatches them, And causes the light of His cloud to shine? NKJV iii. Heb. 5:14 “who through reason of use have trained the senses to discern…” Ie. Soldiers on a battle field who fall on grenades to save fellow soldiers. c. Why does God want us to stand? i. He wants to impress us! ii. He wants us to see what He can do? iii. Our victory is dependent on it! 2. Stand Still a. Stand is a directive given by God through the prophet Jehaziel. Once you have your position that has been assigned by God—hold it! b. Definition: Hebrew--`amad —note that the English word ‘still’ is not in the passage. It is just ‘Stand”. There are three implications of the word. I believe that God is looking for all three when He asks us to stand. i. to stand, to remain, to endure, to take one's stand; 1. 2 Tim 2:3-4 You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. 4 No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier. NKJV 2. 2 Tim 2:10 Therefore I endure all things for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus NKJV ii. to stand still, to stop (moving or doing), to cease (To cease from works or working) 1. 2 Chron 20:17 Stand and see. Watch, observe, “Let me show you how it is done!” 2. Luke 10:39-40 And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus' feet and heard His word. 40 But Martha was distracted with much serving, NKJV She was moving for approval, and in doing so missed the very thing that would give her significance. a. The key in that passage is distraction. i. If you get distracted you miss things. ii. If you get distracted on the battle field-people get hurt and FCC is get far to distracted right now. We are in a battle but we think all is well. America is a picture of the church. We are at war and the only ones who know are the troops in Iraq/Afghanistan and elsewhere that terrorists are. iii. If you get distracted you miss the miraculous that God is doing! iv. If you get distracted you may miss the impartation. God wanted to impart something to Jehoshaphat and Judah. b. You stand still because if you don’t you give away your position. When you move you are easy to see. When the deer stands still it is hard to find. When the soldier moves fast his movements are spotted. c. Licensed from the Institute for Creation Research.) 1. Eph 6:13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. NKJV 2. Eph 6:13 Be prepared. You're up against far more than you can handle on your own. Take all the help you can get, every weapon God has issued, so that when it's all over but the shouting you'll still be on your feet.(from THE MESSAGE.) 3. What do I need to Stand? a. Eph 6:13-14 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14 Stand therefore NKJV i. Whole armor 1. Truth 2. Righteousness 3. Peace 4. Faith-- Rom 11:20 Well said. Because of unbelief they were broken off, and you stand by faith. NKJV 5. Salvation 6. The Word 7. Prayer 8. Watchfulness and perseverance ii. From Message Bible: every weapon that God has issued! b. Endurance—a soldier does not get to pick his assignment. He does not even get the opportunity to pick his battle. He does not get to choose what kind of weather he fights in. What ever comes at him is what he has to endure. i. Mark 4:16-18 These likewise are the ones sown on stony ground who, when they hear the word, immediately receive it with gladness; 17 and they have no root in themselves, and so endure only for a time. Afterward, when tribulation or persecution arises for the word's sake, immediately they stumble. NKJV If you have no root you will not stand. c. Phil 1:27 Only let your conduct be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of your affairs, that you stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel, NKJV One spirit, one mind, one faith.
