Seeking the master

070916 Seeking the Master Tim Franklin Mt. 6:33 Introduction:

In Three Weeks Our Fifth Prophetic Conference will be upon us.

In my heart I am sensing urgency to the place of prayer. It is not really about the conference but about the hunger I have in my heart for.
I want to see this county broken open for God! I want to see God come here and dwell. I live with this promise: Mt 5:6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled. NKJV

For the last three months I have encouraged us in our outreach and in developing a heart for those outside the safety of the Kingdom of God. Doug Addison came and equipped to go out into the streets and encourage people. Hey, it works, what a novel idea—Christians that are encouraging.
I want to talk this morning about our hunger for God.

I believe we know a good amount about God. But I am challenged to answer the question if we really know God. We say we do but just how far are our hearts from him?
I believe that God is not only challenging me in this but we all are hearing at some level the questions from the Son of God—“Do you really know me? Do you really want to know me?” Let’s bow our heads and let Him ask that of us personally.

My question/thought for the last few weeks has really been this: God there has to be more than this. It provoked me to review some things: John G Lake, Smith Wigglesworth, William Braham and others who reached this place in their ministry.

This place is not about numbers, fame, big church, etc. it is about knowing Him!
We have lived now as a church for quite some time sensing that we are on the verge of a breakthrough.

I believe God is in playful but serious way, teasing us.
I believe that God is inviting us to draw closer to him.
It is what we call—hunger for God.

An old monk once stood waist deep in the beautiful waters of a big lake. A young man who was desperate to find God saw the old man standing in the water and he came bounding down the hill to greet him. “What are you doing?” asked the young man. “I am communing with God.” “I want God too!” Said the young man. “Then you too must come into the water.” The old monk stood patiently and peacefully seeming to be in another place. This disturbed the now wet young man and he said, “I want to know God.” With that the priest laid him back in the water as to baptize him. Five seconds went by, 10, 15, the young man began to struggle and yet the monk held him under, his arms began to thrash, his eyes wide open just below the surface as last of his breath was expelled. The monk brought him out of the water and young man exclaimed, “What are you trying to do…kill me?” The monk replied, “When you want God more than your next breath you shall find Him.” Mt 5:6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled. NKJV

The Fight for Your Soul

Mt 6:33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. NKJV Again we see another promise given to those who hunger enough for God to seek Him. But I want to go back a few verses to where this portion of the conversation begins.
Mt 6:24 "No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon. NKJV

i. Jesus is speaking of treasure on earth vs. treasure in heaven; eye filled with darkness, or eye filled with light. Then He introduces his point for those who are a little slower in learning—you will serve one of two masters. 1. The Greek word for master is kurious or Lord. “he to whom a person or thing belongs, about which he has the power of deciding; master, lord” (Thayer's Greek Lexicon, Electronic Database. Copyright © 2000, 2003 by Biblesoft, Inc.) 2. In other words someone is going to own you—God or one of the many other gods that are sent to get you off the path of life. ii. Jesus is telling us that we have a choice to make when he states-you cannot serve two masters/you cannot serve God and mammon. Mammon is riches in which one puts his trust; anything outside of God. 1. Do know that many people seek God for His benefits more than they seek God for Him? 2. When we do that we despise him. Jesus said we would either be loyal to one of the masters or we would despise him. a. kataphronéœ. –despise. With genitive, double genitive, accusative, or epí, this verb means "to despise," "to disparage," "to treat with disinterest." (from Theological Dictionary of the New Testament, abridged edition, Copyright © 1985 by William B. Eerdmans Publishing Company. All rights reserved.) b. We use the word despise as meaning something incredibly hateful, but the word actually refers to disinterest. How do we treat Jesus with disinterest? i. We neglect his Word—we are not interested. ii. We neglect prayer—we are not interested in talking to Him. iii. We neglect his work—we are not interested in what he is interested in. iv. We hear his word on Sunday but don’t apply it on Monday because it does not fit our day, lifestyle, or preferences so we show disinterest by not paying any attention to it. c. Scripture: that define the word despise. i. Ro 2:4 Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance? NKJV ii. Mt 18:10-11 "Take heed that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that in heaven their angels always see the face of My Father who is in heaven. NKJV iii. 1 Ti 4:12 Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity. NKJV iv. Heb 12:2 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. NKJV 3. God wants us to know him. It has to do with intimacy-that we would be interested in one another. Is. the prophet thought he knew God until he had a God encounter in Is. 6. He said he was undone! Why? Because he thought he knew God until he encountered God. 4. Lake, Wigglesworth, Brahnam all thought they knew God, professed to be baptized in the Holy Spirit but yet when they encountered the fire of God their testimonies became as Isaiah’s. “We thought we knew God.”

We need a renewed interest in the presence of God in our House!

i. Hunger says we are dissatisfied with the way it has been because it has forced us to live without Him. ii. Hunger says God I do not want you in second place anymore behind my busy, selfish, otherly consumed life. iii. How well do you know Him? iv. We have not seen the value of knowing God and so we have pursued other interests.

Your Value to God

Mt 6:26 Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? NKJV
This is powerful. Jesus says that we must choose between two masters.

i. Be filled with light or filled with darkness ii. Have treasures on earth on treasure in heaven iii. Choose a master to serve 1. AND let me help you. All creation trusts God and you are more valuable to Him that it is. 2. There is a battle going on for your heart and for the heart of this nation. If in the house of Freedom can see that and realize how valuable we are to God, I have to believe that God will show up in a big way here and open the heavens over this House and over our county. a. It will be easy to get healed, saved delivered.

The world is looking for God

i. That is why all the psychic shows are so popular. ii. All the Ghost busting shows, evil spiritual and white magical shows are popular because people are spiritually hunger. 1. The church is seen as irrelevant and outdated. We have become a food pantry with no food. 2. People have come looking and left empty. iii. We have to get hungry to have more than what we have currently got church. A spiritual goose bump is no longer good enough. A happy dance, a joyful flag, an enlightening sermon is not enough. 1. Paul did not say, I came to you with flags, and dances and sermons. He came with a demonstration of the spirits power. 2. It is time we contend for that opening of heaven that the church would once again be filled with the children’s bread.

God has already told us we are valuable to Him. When are we going to respond with radical seeking faith?

Therefore I Must Seek Him

Mt 6:33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. NKJV
Seeking God is an expression of our hunger. It is far more than lip service, it is actual pursuit of God.

i. Tommy Tenny in the Book God chasers said, “I believe that when the conglomerate prayers of God’s people gather together and finally reach a crescendo of power hunger and intensity it finally gets to be “to much” for God to delay any longer. ii. Dr. Miller a missionary to Argentina in the 1950 was a part of a 50 day prayer and fasting effort at their school. At day 50 a prophetic word came forth that let them know they had broken through in the heavenlies. He said, “If God can get enough people in an area to reject the rulership and dominion of Satan, if enough of his people will reject satan’s dominion in the right way—with humility and brokenness and in repentant intercession, then God will slap and eviction notice on the doorway of the ruling power of that area. And when he does, then there is a light and glory that begins to come.” iii. This kind of pursuit of God requires us to die to ourselves. 1. Kathryn Kuhlman healing evangelist of the 70’s-“I can remember the very place where Kathryn Kuhlman died.” 2. Dietrich Bonhoeffer – “When Christ bids a man to come and follow he bids him to come and die.” 3. Smith Wigglesworth, “The Lord wants us to understand that we must come to a place where our natural lives cease, and by the power of God, we rise into lives where God rules, where He reigns.” 4. God is wanting us to find the place where we die to ourselves and live to Him. Conclusion:

This Thursday I am challenging us to enter together into a fast for 21 days. I am not dictating how you will fast I am only asking that for 21 days in some way you join me in fasting.

For our own personal encounter with God. That we would hunger and thirst for God and be filled by Him
Secondly that in that 21 day time period all of would experience a deeper personal death to our selfish ways and make Jesus truly Lord of our lives.
Third as we fast lets agree that God will come and release the supernatural in our county.

Souls being saved
Healings flowing like rivers
Chains broken off peoples lives.
