100725 Developing a Different Spirit
Tim Franklin
Numbers 14:24 But My servant Caleb, because he has a different spirit in him and has followed Me fully, I will bring into the land where he went, and his descendants shall inherit it. NKJV
Introduction:
-
How many have been battling fear in this economy? How many have been trouble by prophetic words that are coming out these days? How many have been feeling spiritually dry? Your relationship with God seems plastic, or not real to you?
-
I want to declare today that opportunity is all around us and those who are of a different spirit will find it and enter in.
-
Obstacles come to everyone in life. But those of a different spirit will see their way, over, through or around.
-
Lets look at Calebs life and also Paul word of 2 Cor. 10:4-6
-
Opportunity to Enter
-
All things are possible
-
Matthew 19:26 But Jesus looked at them and said to them, "With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible." NKJV
-
Mark 9:23 Jesus said to him, "If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes." NKJV
-
The very phrase all things are possible literally creates opportunities for those who will believe. And if an opportunity is created you must enter it/take it when it arises.
-
Possibilities mean opportunities exist!
-
Two conditions
-
God is the One who makes all things possible
-
All things are possible to those who believe
-
You have to want what you’ve been given. And you must see what is yours (vision/dream).
-
Abraham was given the Land. He and his descendants. Gen 15:18
-
Isaac was told to dwell in the land he had been given. Gen 26:3-ff
-
Caleb saw the land was good. Gen 13:20-14:10
-
Moses heard God say, “land of milk and honey”
-
This was the defining vision of where they were going—while they were still slaves in Egypt.
-
Jeremiah 11:2 referred Egypt as the iron furnace and compared it to the milk and honey land.
-
The church has been given all: 2 Corinthians 1:20 For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us. NKJV Do you want to be healed? Say, Yes I want to! Delivered? Break through? Prosper? See your kids walk with God? Have a great marriage?
-
How big is your “want to?” Caleb had a big ‘want to’ and God said of him he had a different spirit.
-
Obstacles to Overcome 2 Cor. 10:3-6; Numbers 13:28-14:10
-
Three Obstacle groups exist. These are everyman’s enemies. You know them personally. These enemies/obstacles keep us out of the land of promise, the land of opportunity, the land of milk and honey.
-
Strongholds
-
A fortress of human reasoning. It appears so big that when you look at it, it seems impossible to bring down. Every angle of approach seems to strong to bring down.
-
Mind sets, belief system, life choices establish this stronghold.
-
Examples: Fear is a stronghold. Rejection is a stronghold. Pride is a stronghold.
-
Imagination
-
logízomai. It is all about human reasoning that orient us away from God.In secular Greek this word is used a. commercially for "to reckon," "to charge,". and b. more generally for "to deliberate," "to conclude." In the LXX it takes on the nuance a. of an emotional and even volitional act, e.g., devising, or counting in the subjective sense.
-
The logismoí are the thoughts of arrogant reason which can be subdued, not by reason's own weapons, but only by God's power as this is set forth at the cross (cf. Luke 22:37 quoting Isa 53:12). The logismoí are not destroyed but reoriented to divine reality.(from Theological Dictionary of the New Testament, abridged edition, Copyright © 1985 by William B. Eerdmans Publishing Company. -
Unless this is cast down by the grace of God this man made tower will become a man made tomb.
-
In short it is to exchange the truth of and about God for a lie.
-
Exalts—arrogance, self lifting. Things that exalt themselves against.
-
Exposing the enemy. Numbers 13:28-14:10
-
13:28 Nevertheless—reasoning—‘ya but’. It comes from the Heb word ‘Epec’ which means: finished, final, brought to an end. “The end of the matter is this.” “The only logical decision is this….”
-
Moved by what I see
-
13:28 Strong People—Stronghold fear
-
13:28 Fortified cities—Stronghold fear
-
Giants live there
-
Moved by how I see me
-
13:31 We are not able—reasoning.
-
Compared themselves to others and also with themselves-grasshoppers—reasoning.
-
2 Corinthians 10:12 For we dare not class ourselves or compare ourselves with those who commend themselves. But they, measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise. NKJV
-
Moved by what I hear
-
Spread a bad report—stronghold fear
-
Moved by how I feel
-
If only we had died –stronghold rejection. Came after 400 years of slavery. “Where is God now?”
-
Numbers 14:2 And all the children of Israel complained against Moses and Aaron, and the whole congregation said to them, "If only we had died in the land of Egypt! Or if only we had died in this wilderness! NKJV
-
Poor me
-
Numbers 14:3 Why has the Lord brought us to this land to fall by the sword, that our wives and children should become victims? Would it not be better for us to return to Egypt?" NKJV
-
Moved to wrong action
-
Rebellion—lets select a leader and go back to Egypt 14:3
-
These false reasoning must be pulled down and reoriented back to God. You cannot destroy reasoning you reorient it.
-
Operating with a Different Spirit Numbers 14:24
-
Caleb had a different spirit. Wow! That is encouraging. That tells me I do not have to think like the rest of the world when it seem like the whole world is falling apart. Caleb was operating differently in the midst of the same circumstances as everyone else.
-
He operated in faith. He was moved by what he knew. He knew God could be trusted.
-
He lived to please God—he walked in faith and trusted God at his word.
-
Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. NKJV
-
A different spirit is one that walks in faith and when opportunities presents itself it is ready to move because God has spoken.
-
He confessed what he believed Numbers 13:30 Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, "Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it." NKJV
-
Was not moved by what he felt.
-
2 Timothy 1:12 For this reason I also suffer these things; nevertheless I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day. NKJV
-
Faith comes by hearing the Word not by asking for it. Ro 10:17
-
John 6:63 Jesus said my words are Spirit and Life.
-
Pr. 18:21 Life and death are in the power of the tongue. What are you speaking.
-
He operated in the word.
-
Numbers 14:8 If the Lord delights in us, then He will bring us into this land and give it to us, 'a land which flows with milk and honey.' NKJV
-
Moved by what I speak: This is a Kingdom Principle:The demonstration of the Spirit follows a declaration of a believer. The Spirit moves as the Word is spoken. We resist oppression by rebuking it in Jesus’ name. The primary way Satan tries to gain access to people is through their mind and body. The degree to which one yields to Satan in these areas determines how much Satan is able to influence him.
-
What has God already said that I can say?
-
Jer 1:12 …You have seen well for I am alert and active, watching over my word to perform it. AMP
-
Ps 103:20 Bless the Lord , you His angels, Who excel in strength, who do His word,Heeding the voice of His word. NKJV
-
Gods spirit hovered over the darkness until words were released.
-
He Operated in Covenant
-
Numbers 14:8 If the Lord delights in us, then He will bring us into this land and give it to us, 'a land which flows with milk and honey.' NKJV Comes from Gen 15:18; 26:3
-
14:9 The Lord is with us…they are our bread. NKJV
-
Numbers 14:23-24 they certainly shall not see the land of which I swore to their fathers, nor shall any of those who rejected Me see it. 24 But My servant Caleb, because he has a different spirit in him and has followed Me fully, I will bring into the land where he went, and his descendants shall inherit it. NKJV
-
We have a better covenant, better high priest and better blood. Heb 8:6 Jesus is the mediator of a better covenant.
-
**Heb 13:20.
-
He operated in Righteousness
-
Nu 14:24—He has followed Me fully. NKJV Abraham, Noah, it was credited to them as righteousness because they obeyed God.
-
We have a righteousness that comes by faith in Christ Jesus!
Conclusion:
-
You have to choose this lifestyle. You can be a luke warm Christian that vomited out of the mouth of God at the end of the age or you can be of a different spirit, like Caleb. You can be a luke warm Christian and die in the wilderness (why am I so empty, so dry, so fruitless?) or you can enter fully into the promised land.
-
You have the opportunity to enter because with God all things are possible.
-
Make the choice to fire up your spiritual life. Walk by faith not by sight.
-
Let God pick you out of the crowd because you have a different spirit.
