100627 You Shall Recover All

Tim Franklin
1 Sam 30:1-8

Introduction:
·         June 27, Call to Pray by Governors of Gulf States
·         Series of dreams on June 12-14. I will be ministering on that this Friday at the MyHOP meeting, 7 p.m. @ FCC.
·         In light of the prophetic dream that I will be sharing there I was reminded of the Word that God prophetically gave us on New Years Eve. I preached from 1 Sam. 30:1-8. I want to go back to that passage today and equip you so that you are even better prepared to respond to the prophetic word I shall share this Friday night.
·         God has given us all dreams. He has released to us things that He has meant to be deposited in our lives that would benefit us, our children and others. But the their comes to steal, kill and destroy (Jn 10:10) and to threaten us from ever allowing that deposit to be made in our lives. He knows that if it happens he is finished!

1.  The Threat
A. The power of a threat
i.     This is a word that we constantly today. Threat of terrorists, threat of economic collapse, threat violence, threat of disease, etc. Here a threat, there a threat, everywhere a threat-threat.
ii.  Webster—“The expression of an intention to inflict evil or injury on another; the declaration of an evil, loss, or pain to come; menace; threatening; denunciation.”
B.  The objective of a threat is the creation of fear.
i.     Fear is a barrier to the promises of God. It is the opposite of faith. You cannot operate in a spirit of faith and a spirit of fear at the same time.
ii.  Fear manifests itself in many forms. At its mildest, it appears as just a mild form of uneasy or discomfort, a feeling that something is not quite right. At its worse, fear can kill. In between these two extremes are found all types of fear - anger, frustrations, rage and just about any negative emotion. In fact, all negative emotions have their roots in fear. Another way of saying this is that fear is the mother of all negativity in us.
iii. Fear can be gathered into 3 main catagories:
a.  Fear of insecurity
(i)     Fear of insecurity manifests out of a need for safety. When our safety or security is threatened, this fear arises. Safety here refers not only to physical safety but also emotional and mental safety. We take great pain to protect ourselves from emotional and mental hurts and harms.
b.  Fear of loneliness
(i)     This fear includes also the fear of separation and arises out of our need to be accepted and included.  We fear being excluded, forsaken, shunned, rejected, ostracized or abandoned. The sense of loneliness can be felt even when one is physically present in the midst of a crowd of people. What we want is not merely physical closeness but emotional and mental acceptance. We longed for approval and acceptance.
c.    Fear of loss
(i)     This fear arises out of our need to hold on.  We fear loss of our life, our property, our family, our money, our reputation, our fame, our freedom, and just about anything you can think of. We cling on to things we like and run away from things we don't.  This fear of loss is the fear of losing everything we considered dear and near to us.

C.  David and the devil’s threat
i.     David was experiencing all the above: loss, loneliness, insecurity.
ii.  Prophetically
a.               Vs 2 the women and children were taken captive. That speaks of the potential to give birth or to bring forth that which God has placed in your heart to do.
b.  Vs. 2 small and great. Speaks of the generations. Affects more than just ‘me.’
c.    Their very future and past was at stake. Speaks of their heritage and lineage.
iii. The threat was designed to hold up/discourage David from reaching the place God had called him which was to be King of Israel.
iv. What is the threat that is holding you up today? What are you going to do about it?
2.  The Test vs 3-5
A. How I respond in the midst of the threat. Basically two ways
B.  Like the masses
i.     They wept because of their loss
ii.  They despaired—had no more tears, just silence, alone—(self pity)
iii. They grieved-they felt the pain of their loss and they rehearsed their loss and its pain.
iv. They became angry
a.  They wanted others to feel their pain.
b.  They spoke ill of David
c.    They blamed David
d.  They wanted to kill David
C.  Like the Man of God
i.     David wept and at the pain of his loss but he responded differently. He asked himself, “Where is God in all of this?” Not from a self pity perspective but from a faith perspective. Somewhere in all of this I will find God, because he has not left me, he has not forsaken my children, and this did not catch Him off guard.
ii.  Encouraged himself in the Lord (kwazak) to make strong, to take courage, to prevail in the Lord.
iii. He had to find out what God had to say!   What is God saying to you? If your heart is filled with fear fill it with the Word and faith will arise. Ie. D.L. Moody held up a glass and asked, “How can I get the air out of this glass?” One man shouted, “Suck it out with a pump!” Moody replied, “That would create a vacuum and shatter the glass.”After numerous other suggestions Moody smiled, picked up a pitcher of water, and filled the glass. “There,” he said, “all the air is now removed.”
a.  Psalms 27:3 Though an army may encamp against me, My heart shall not fear; Though war may rise against me, In this I will be confident. NKJV
b.  1 John 4:18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love. NKJV
c.    2 Timothy 1:7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. NKJV
d.  2 Corinthians 10:5 casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, NKJV
e.  Deuteronomy 30:20 that you may love the Lord your God, that you may obey His voice, and that you may cling to Him, for He is your life and the length of your days; …NKJV
iv. You must know in whom you believe and what you believe to do this. You must come to the realization that God has our and others best interests in mind.
v.  When you know what you believe your confession of faith is born.
vi. 1 Sam. 17:50 David ran and stood over Goliath.
vii.           Ex 7:13 Pharaoh hardened his heart. He resolved—an act of the will based on belief.
viii.         David found help in the Lord.
a.  1 Samuel 30:8 So David inquired of the Lord, saying, "Shall I pursue this troop? Shall I overtake them?" And He answered him, "Pursue, for you shall surely overtake them and without fail recover all." NKJV God gave this word to us at the start of the year! So what are we going to do about it?
3.  The Testimony
A. David encouraged himself in the Lord. Got into the place of faith. 2Cor 5:7 we walk by faith and not by sight.
B.  He enquired of the Lord—Abithar the priest. vs 6 He heard from God, “Pursue for you shall …recover all.”
C.  He did three things that we must learn to do.
i.     Vs 10 David pursued. David pursued even when he lost one third of his men because they were to tired to fight. That was a threat that did not stop David because the Lord had spoken.send
ii.  Vs. 17 David attacked
a.  We cannot forget who and whose we are. Forcefully the Kingdom of God advances and forceful men lay hold it. Mt 11:12
b.  1 Sam 17:48 David hurried and ran to Goliath. He did not hesitate!
iii. Vs 18 & 19 David recovered all.
a.  The Hebrew word for recover is hassala-to recover, to tear away from. David stripped away from the Amalakites all that the Amalakites had held up regarding David.
b.  It is what the Jews did when they left Egypt in Exodus 12:35 Now the children of Israel had done according to the word of Moses, and they had asked from the Egyptians articles of silver, articles of gold, and clothing… thus they plundered the Egyptians. NKJV
c.    It is what the Jehoshaphat did when He and his nation was threatened. 2 Chronicles 20:25 When Jehoshaphat and his people came to take away their spoil, they found among them an abundance of valuables on the dead bodies, and precious jewelry, which they stripped off for themselves, more than they could carry away; and they were three days gathering the spoil because there was so much. NKJV What is threatening you?

Conclusion:
·         The devil seeks to threaten us to move us into the place of fear—insecurity, isolation/loneliness, and loss. If he can do that he stop us and the movement of God in our lives.
·         We have to encourage ourselves in the Lord.
·         Find out what God has to say and take the battle to the devil.
·         Starting place is making Jesus Lord of your life.
