100414 Divine Healing: God’s Recipe

Joshua Travers

Introduction:
God is the Healer (See Exodus 15:26). This revelation is essential for any believer.
I.    Healing is like a good soup. You need three things
a.       Broth
b.      Fixins’
c.       Heat
1.      Broth- the body and blood of Jesus. There is no healing without Him.
a.       Isaiah 53:5- But he was pierced for our transgressions,
       he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was upon him,
and by his wounds we are healed.
b.      I Peter 2:24- He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.
2.      Fixins’- the power of God/ Holy Spirit
a.        Luke 5:17- One day as he was teaching, Pharisees and teachers of the law, who had come from every village of Galilee and from Judea and Jerusalem, were sitting there. And the power of the Lord was present for him to heal the sick.
3.      Faith- our partnership with Him. True faith expects healing. (Hebrews 11:1) It’s not a “I hope so”, or “whatever God wants” attitude. It’s knowing that God is the Healer, knowing that His will is to heal and standing on that, despite what the present circumstance is. Sickness is not an affliction for the man or woman of faith. It is an opportunity for God’s power to be manifest.
a.       Mark 16:17-18- And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; 18they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well."

Conclusion
Fixing the soup
1. We must put our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. He was broken for us. This leads us into the promise of healing as the Father’s child.
2. We must access and welcome the power of God in our lives.
a.      Praise and worship is a must (Psalm 22:3). Our expressions of exuberant praise silence the enemy.
b.      Praying and singing in the Spirit
                                                              i.      Jude 20-21.
ii.      This can activate other gifts in the body like gifts of healing, words of knowledge, and faith. Remember, different gifts, same Spirit.
c.       We must live a righteous life. Sin and iniquity hinder the healing process. Sometimes they are the very cause of the sickness. They stop up the well of the river of God in us. Remember when Jesus said, “Stop sinning or something worse may happen to you.” (John 5:14), or “Go and sin no more.” (John 8:11)
d.      Ask, expecting to receive. Doubt kills healing more than anything. There can be a powerful anointing present but no healing, if there isn’t faith. Remember the soup analogy. Faith activates healing.
                                                              i.      Jesus marvels at the faith of a centurion, Luke 7:9, heals the servant via Holy Spirit satellite, and then prophesies about the Kingdom. This all happened in response to the man’s faith.
ii.      Mark 6:6- Jesus marvels at the people’s unbelief, and heals only a few sick. Doubt stopped more potential healings and miracles.

Psalm 103
 1 Praise the LORD, O my soul;
all my inmost being, praise his holy name.
2 Praise the LORD, O my soul,
and forget not all his benefits-
3 who forgives all your sins        and heals all your diseases,
4 who redeems your life from the pit
and crowns you with love and compassion,
5 who satisfies your desires with good things
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's.
Exodus 15
22 Then Moses led Israel from the Red Sea and they went into the Desert of Shur. For three days they traveled in the desert without finding water. 23 When they came to Marah, they could not drink its water because it was bitter. (That is why the place is called Marah. [e] ) 24 So the people grumbled against Moses, saying, "What are we to drink?"
25 Then Moses cried out to the LORD, and the LORD showed him a piece of wood. He threw it into the water, and the water became sweet.
There the LORD made a decree and a law for them, and there he tested them. 26 He said, "If you listen carefully to the voice of the LORD your God and do what is right in his eyes, if you pay attention to his commands and keep all his decrees, I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the LORD, who heals you."
