100321 The Blood of Sprinkling

Ex. 12:13

Tim Franklin

Introduction:
  • Signs
    • Give direction
    • Give information
    • Give warnings
    • Hebrew: OT:226 a sign, a signal; a distinguishing mark; remembrance; a miraculous sign; a warning (from The Online Bible Thayer's Greek Lexicon and Brown Driver & Briggs Hebrew Lexicon, Copyright © 1993, Woodside Bible Fellowship, Ontario, Canada. Licensed from the Institute for Creation Research.)
  • Note that the sign is for the Israelites.
    • It was to work in favor of the Israelites. It would: speak to God, to Israel, and to the future.
  • The Sign was an O.T. shadow, type, (The sign would point to the reality.)
    • In the N.T. would be found the reality.

  1. Sign to God—The blood of sprinkling.
    1. The Passover—God will Passover and not let the curse touch the Israelites.
                                                              i.      God would see the blood and Passover. So to God, the blood is a sign.
1.      A sign of what?
a.       Faith – it shows faith in the word of God, through Moses. Heb 11:28 By faith he kept the Passover and the sprinkling of blood, lest he who destroyed the firstborn should touch them. NKJV
b.      Obedience – the faith is made manifest in the works. Faith without works is dead. James 2:20, 26.
2.      When God sees the blood you are seen in right standing with Him.
ii.      God is the acting Judge who is carrying out justice. To get a not guilty verdict one had to have the blood on the door post and lintel (overhang).
    1. The destroyer will not be allowed to touch Ex 12:23 the LORD will pass over the door and not allow the destroyer to come into your houses to strike you. NKJV
                                                              i.      Destroyer – Heb. To corrupt, ruin, spoil, mar, destroy.
ii.      To smite Israel—the death blow, to strike with plague, a painful but quick death.
                                                          iii.      How is he overcome
1.      Rev 12:11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony NKJV
2.      Ezek 14:14 Even if these three men, Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, they would deliver only themselves by their righteousness," says the Lord GOD. NKJV
3.      The blood speak righteousness. Phil 3:9 and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness , which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith; NKJV
a.       Righteousness comes by faith: Romans 10:6,10; Gal 3:6;
b.      Righteousness speaks Ro. 10:6 speaks the word that is in the heart and on the tongue.
  1. Sign to You—The Blood of Sprinkling
    1. The sign was to be yearly observed. The Passover became an established feast to be observed each year, forever. Ex 12:24 And you shall observe this thing as an ordinance for you and your sons forever. NKJV
                                                              i.      Teach this to the children. Not just to the head but to the heart. Luke 2:41 His parents went to Jerusalem every year at the Feast of the Passover .NKJV
ii.      It was to be an impartation of truth to the next generation not just an activity.
1.      Christmas something almost all observe but few understand the truth of.
2.      Easter—three day weekend, easter egg hunt.
    1. The Sign was to always bring to remembrance. What was to be remembered?
                                                              i.      The word of the Lord to Israel through Moses.
ii.      The obedience of the people in the sprinkling of the blood.
    1. The Sign was to point to the future. It was prophetic in that it pointed to the Messiah.
  1. Sign to the Future—The Blood of Sprinkling
    1. This will be a sign forever. Ex. 12:24.
                                                              i.      Unending truth.
ii.      The reality of the truth is forever.
    1. Signs say something. They communicate.
                                                              i.      The truth is that the blood speaks. It says Passover, bless, prosper, heal, protect.
ii.      What was instituted in Exodus is fulfilled in the Gospels. The crucifixion of our Passover Lamb.
1.      1 Cor 5:7 For indeed Christ, our Passover , was sacrificed for us. NKJV
2.      John 1:29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, "Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! NKJV
3.      Rev. 5:6; 6:1; 7:14 The Lamb of God
iii.      All the truths of Points 1 and 2 are fulfilled as the eternal reality in Jesus!
    1. Isn’t it interesting that Jesus is crucified during the Passover time.
                                                              i.      Matt 26:26-29 And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said, "Take, eat; this is My body." 27 Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, "Drink from it, all of you. 28 For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. NKJV
1.      John 6:51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven.  If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world." NKJV John 6 is taught in the setting of Passover. Much symbolism in the language Jesus chooses as well as in the setting.
2.      Jesus adds new meaning to the Passover celebration. From now on you will do this in remembrance of me and not a little lamb.

Conclusion:
  • Invitation to receive Christ.
    • Signs give
      • Direction
      • Information
      • Warning
    • Are you reading the signs?
    • Jesus accused the Pharisee of not being able to discern the signs, are you discerning them?

Isa 19:19-22 In that day there will be an altar to the LORD in the midst of the land of Egypt, and a pillar to the LORD at its border. 20 And it will be for a sign and for a witness to the LORD of hosts in the land of Egypt; for they will cry to the LORD because of the oppressors, and He will send them a Savior and a Mighty One, and He will deliver them. 21 Then the LORD will be known to Egypt, and the Egyptians will know the LORD in that day, and will make sacrifice and offering; yes, they will make a vow to the LORD and perform it. 22 And the LORD will strike Egypt, He will strike and heal it; they will return to the LORD, and He will be entreated by them and heal them. NKJV
