Revelation Session 14 - Ch 21 and 22
090429 Session 14 Rev 21 22
Tim Franklin
New Jerusalem
Introduction:
· Chapters 21 and 22 are the last two chapters of Revelation. In them is contained the angelic response to Chronological section five—Triumphal Entry.
· These chapters describe the quality of life in the New Jerusalem. It takes us back to the beginning of our Bible in this, Jesus restores to us all that He intended for us in the garden of Eden.
o The new Jerusalem coming to millennial earth assures us that our reign will succeed and release a supernatural dimension of resurrection life to the earth.
o Acts 3:20-21 That he may send Jesus… whom heaven must receive until the times of restoration of all things, which God has spoken by the mouth of all His holy prophets… NKJV
· The New Jerusalem is the place where resurrected saints will live. However we will reign on the Millennial earth with governmental responsibilities. The saints will travel back and forth between the two realms much like angels ascend and descend between the two realms now.
· Government is the main theme of section 5 and its angelic explanation. We see Jesus throne coming to earth, we see him giving thrones to the saints (Rev. 20:4) and driving Satan’s throne off the earth Rev 20:3. The finale is the arrival of God’s throne Rev 21:3
· What we learn in these two chapters are intended to strengthen our resolve to resist temptation and overcome persecution. If we can see the full scope of this revelation given to John we will say, “It is worth the cost! I can overcome for that.” We want to live with the Bridegroom in the New Jerusalem and not the antichrist in the lake of fire.
· Rev. 21 & 22 brings the garden of Eden to replace the antichrist’s empire and its “hell on earth”. Jesus will reverse the curse and tragedy that occurred in Eden. When the New Jerusalem comes to earth, then heave is literally on earth.
1. The New Jerusalem: Heaven and Earth Come Together
a. Heaven speaks of God’s supernatural dimension where God’s presence is openly manifest.
b. Earth speaks of the physical real as the place where natural process, human emotion and physical sensation reach full expression.
c. Jesus will rule the earth with the natural processes not suspended, yet enhanced. Like
i. Jn 20 and 21 where we see Jesus supernatural body.
ii. Acts 1 where he appears and then ascends.
d. Jesus’ throne.
i. At the second coming Jesus will establish His throne of Glory in Jerusalem.
1. Matthew 25:31-32 "When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. 32 All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. NKJV
2. Jeremiah 3:17 "At that time Jerusalem shall be called The Throne of the Lord, and all the nations shall be gathered to it, to the name of the Lord, to Jerusalem. ... NKJV
ii. Jesus throne of glory will be connected to the Holy of Holies in the Millennial Temple.
1. Ezekiel 43:4-7 And the glory of the Lord came into the temple … I heard Him speaking to me from the temple, …this is the place of My throne and the place of the soles of My feet, where I will dwell in the midst of the children of Israel forever…NKJV
iii. Jesus throne is in the earthly Millennial Jerusalem and the New Jerusalem.
1. Revelation 22:3 the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it …NKJV
2. His throne will be both on and in Heaven. One throne with two expression.
3. Mike Bickle refers this as the corridor of glory between the two Jerusalems.
4. The New Jerusalem will descend to the Millennial Jerusalem connecting the two Jerusalems.
iv. Four Reasons why the New Jerusalem is close to the Millennial Jerusalem.
1. Millennial Jerusalem is about 10 square miles. The New Jerusalem is about 1,380 miles. (about the same distance from Orlando to Minneapolis, Mn. As the crow flys) Israel is only 160 miles long from N to S.)
2. The kings of the millennial earth come into the New Jerusalem (Rev. 21:24-26)
3. The leaves in the New Jerusalem are for the healing of the Millennial nations. Therefore the people on earth have access to those healing leaves. Rev 22:2
4. Angels guard the entry to the City to keep sinners out. (Rev. 21:12,27; 22:14-15)
v. The Proximity of the New Jerusalem and the Millennial Jerusalem will create a unique dynamic in which the spiritual and natural realm operate together. It will cause a flood of glory on the earth.
1. Habakkuk 2:14 For the earth will be filled With the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, As the waters cover the sea. NKJV
2. We get a glimpse of this i Gen 28:12-16 Jacobs ladder.
2. External view of the New Jerusalem Rev 21:9-21
a. It is described as a cube 21:16. It is like Solomon’s holy of holies in the temple.20x20x20 (I Kings 6:19-20)
b. The foundations of the city were dressed up with precious stones. They are the stones that covered the breastplate of the priest. (Ex. 28:17-20; 39:10)
c. It was filled with the Shekinah glory as in the temple (2 Chron 5-7)
d. Its construction: 12 gates about 500 miles apart. Walls, and streets. (Rev 21:12-21)
e. Its size: the walls are 1,380 miles long (about 7,000,000 ft.) in length, height, width. Outer space is 800 miles from earth.
3. Internal view of the New Jerusalem. It is the ultimate garden of Eden.
a. The cities beauty. Rev 21:22-27. Face to face communion with God. 22:1-5. It is a worshipping city with not temple 21:22; 22:24a. It is an illuminated city with no sun 21:23; 22:5 God is there. It is a servant city, and a holy city.
b. John Describes the beautiful light source of the city (21:23-24; ez 43:2; Isa 60:20).
c. Life in the city. Rev 22:1-5:
