The Presence Anointing and Glory - Part 1

080525 The Presence Anointing and Glory
Tim Franklin
Lk 9:27-ff

Introduction:
·         Memorial weekend.
·         I sense momentum building among us for the things of God.
·         I sense a fresh hunger for more of him.
·         I want to present to you today that there is always more when you are following God.

1.      The Presence—God is here!
a.       What is the presence?
                                                              i.      Hebrew word for presence is panim.
1.      p¹nîm‎. Face. This particular word always occurs in the plural, perhaps indicative of the fact that the face is a combination of a number of features. The face identifies the person and reflects the attitude and sentiments of the person.
2.      It is only natural that the face was considered to be extraordinarily revealing vis-a-vis a man's emotions, moods, and dispositions. (from Theological Wordbook of the Old Testament. Copyright © 1980 by The Moody Bible Institute of Chicago. All rights reserved. Used by permission.)
3.      We should read the word expecting to see and to feel the emotions of God. The emotions of God bring/reveal the intimacy of God to us.
ii.      In the tabernacle and temple. The inner court held the ‘showbread’ also called the Bread of Presence.
1.      It was a continual reminder to the worshippers of the truth that man does not live by bread alone, emphasized by the fact that these most holy offerings were afterward eaten.
2.      It was the Old Testament version of the prayer, "Give us this day our daily bread"; and in the fact that the holy table was never for a moment left without some loaves lying on it, we have the symbol of man's continued and unbroken dependence upon God.(International Standard Bible Encyclopedia.)
b.      Men Hide from the Presence
                                                              i.      Gen 3:8And they heard the sound of the Lord  God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord  God among the trees of the garden. NKJV
ii.      Gen 4:16Then Cain went out from the presence of the Lord  and dwelt in the land of Nod on the east of Eden. NKJV
c.       Men Pursue the Presence
                                                              i.      5:24And Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him. NKJV
ii.      ENOCH The expression "walked with God" denotes a devout life, lived in close communion with God, while the reference to his end has always been understood, as by the writer of He, to mean, "By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and he was not found, because God translated him" (Heb 11:5).(from International Standard Bible Encyclopaedia, Electronic Database Copyright © 1996, 2003, 2006 by Biblesoft, Inc.                                                           iii.      Seek first the Kingdom of God… Mt. 6:33, Mt. 5:6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst.
d.      God wants us to have His Presence
                                                              i.      OT
1.      Isa 63:9 In all their affliction He was afflicted, And the Angel of His Presence saved them; NKJV
2.      Ex 33:14And He said, "My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest." NKJV
3.      Deut 4:37-38 and He brought you out of Egypt with His Presence, with His mighty power, NKJV
ii.      Jesus-Emanuel God with us. Christ, the Bread of Heaven, continual presence.
1.      Communion-Bread of Presence. Famines came because of sin. Sin separates from God and removes us from His Presence.
iii.      Holy Spirit – I will not leave you as orphans I will give the Comforter.
iv.      God wants us to experience His presence.
a.       How do I get in the presence
a.       Worship-God inhabits the praises of his people.Ps 22:3Yet you are holy, enthroned on the praises of Israel. New Living Translation
b.      Faith-Heb 12:6 They that come must know that He is and that He is a rewarder
c.       Acknowledge him- Practice the Presence. Good morning Holy Spirit.
2.      The Anointing –God has something in His hands!
a.       To anoint
                                                              i.      Comes from the Gr. Word ‘Chrio’ meaning to smear, rub, anoint. ‘Christos’—Christ is the anointed one, the smeared one,
1.      Ps. 23:5 you anoint my head with oil.
2.      Ps. 89:20 With my Holy Oil I have anointed Him.
3.      Ps. 92:10 You have anointed my horn.
ii.      Isa 10:27  … And the yoke will be destroyed because of the anointing oil.  NKJV
iii.      Soaking/spending time in the Presence, is getting anointing from being in the Presence.
b.      The Presence brings the Power. It is not the other way around.
                                                              i.      Acts 4:13-15Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated and untrained men, they marveled. And they realized that they had been with Jesus. 14 And seeing the man who had been healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it. NKJV
ii.      The fruit of the Spirit is the result of spending time in the Presence of God.
iii.      The anointing is the power that comes after having spent time in the presence of God, being conformed to His image and letting God ‘rub off’ on you. You have a measure of God to now give away
c.       Luke 4:18 The Spirit of the Lord has anointed me.
d.      Acts 10:38  how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him. NKJV
e.       See- Wednesday night notes from two weeks ago. Why we need fresh oil.
3.      The Glory—Oh God! We may all die!
a.       What is it?
                                                              i.      I am least qualified to speak here. For I know little about the glory of God. I can make assumptions and tell you of experiences from my walk with God, but the more I have studied the glory of God the little I know about it. I can say this: I believe the glory of God to be His manifest presence. When God makes himself visible to his people. When the man on the street can see God!
ii.      Hebrew – kabad-heavy weighty. Heavy with honor ie. Such as President Bush carries more weight than the average person on the street because of his authority.
1.      Ex 40:34-35Then the cloud covered the tabernacle of meeting, and the glory of the Lord  filled the tabernacle. 35 And Moses was not able to enter the tabernacle of meeting, because the cloud rested above it, and the glory of the Lord  filled the tabernacle. NKJV
iii.      Greek-doxa—honor, glory, splendor, divine radiance
b.      What does it look like? Let me give you some scriptures
                                                              i.      Ex 24:17-18 The sight of the glory of the Lord  was like a consuming fire on the top of the mountain in the eyes of the children of Israel.  So Moses went into the midst of the cloud and went up into the mountain. NKJV
ii.      Ex 29:43-44 And there I will meet with the children of Israel, and the tabernacle shall be sanctified by My glory. NKJV Like divine micro waves that kill every unholy thing.
iii.      Ex 33:18And he said, "Please, show me Your glory." NKJV
1.      Moses knew the presence, he knew the anointing, he was in the glory yet he said, “show me your glory!” How much deeper in God can you get than that?
iv.      Acts 22:11 And since I could not see for the glory of that light, being led by the hand of those who were with me, I came into Damascus. NKJV
                                                            v.      Rev 15:8 The temple was filled with smoke from the glory of God and from His power, and no one was able to enter the temple till the seven plagues of the seven angels were completed. NKJV
vi.      Rev 18:1-2After these things I saw another angel coming down from heaven, having great authority, and the earth was illuminated with his glory. NKJV No need of sun!
vii.      Matt 24:30Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. NKJV
viii.      Rev 21:23 The city had no need of the sun or of the moon to shine in it,* for the glory* of God illuminated it. NKJV
c.       In 2 Chron. 7:1-3 the priests could not stand to minister because of the glory. His Presence was to heavy.
d.      Acts 5:1-11 Annanias and Sapphira died because they lie to the Holy Spirit. The result was the fear of the Lord came upon the church. The glory produces the fear of the Lord.
e.       Transfiguration  Lk. 9:27-36 note vs. 34=cloud and fear.
                                                              i.      Luke 9:29And as He was praying, the appearance of His countenance became altered (different), and His raiment became dazzling white [oflashing with the brilliance of lightning]. AMP
ii.      Altered-changed, to become something new.
iii.      The glory alters things. We go from height to height and glory to glory. It is progressive.
iv.      Jesus in the resurrection received a glorified body. When we are resurrected we will receive a glorified body.
                                                            v.      Things happen in the glory without us asking!

Conclusion:
·         We have looked at three realms today that we can enter.
o   The presence
o   The anointing
o   The glory
·         The simple tells me that right when we think it is great! There is more!
·         The first step is to let the King of Glory come in.
