When God Fights For You - Part 1
080326 When God Fights For You
Tim Franklin
II Chron 20:17
Introduction:
· I believe that what I am about to start tonight will become a series over the next several weeks.
· I want to begin to position us for the upcoming children’s conference as we begin praying into it.
· I want to also equip you to fight your own personal battles.
· The battles I like the best are the ones that the Lord is fighting for me!
· In II Chron 20:15 Jahaziel prophesies “Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours but God’s.” vs. 17, “You will not need to fight in this battle.”
· Jahaziel gives us three things we must do to see the Lord fight for us.—Postion Yourselves, Stand Firm, Believe!
1. Position Yourselves
a. Proper position is required in every battle, contest, challenge or fight. In II Chro. 20:17 God is positioning Judah for the victory.
i. Hebrew word for postion. Yatsab—to place, stand or station/position ones self.
1. Ex 2:3-4 And his sister stood afar off, to know what would be done to him. NKJV
2. Hab 2:1 I will stand my watch And set myself on the rampart, And watch to see what He will say to me NKJV
ii. It is also used of those who set themselves against others.
b. What does having the right position look like.
i. It is being strategically positioned.
1. Deliberately
2. Intentionally
3. Advantageously
ii. Football field, Military Channel-biplane or stealth fights, field strategies.
iii. Position is the key to winning.
c. However, several times we find the promise of God that the enemy will not be able to stand before the godly, i.e. to oppose him.
i. The most familiar passage is Josh 1:5, "No man will be able to stand before you all the days of your life" (cf. Deut 7:24; 11:25).
ii. Sometimes the people of God are told to take their stand, passively and quietly awaiting the mighty deliverance of the Lord as in Ex 14:13 ff, "Do not fear! Stand by and see the salvation of the Lord which He will accomplish for you today... the Lord will fight for you while you keep silent"
2. Stand Still
a. The natural tendency when confronted by danger is to run, become fearful, panic etc. fight or flight.
i. This means moving into the flesh by reacting to situations rather than responding. It looks like Gal. 5:20 “hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions.” When soldiers panic people get killed. That is part of the reason they drill and drill and drill so that when the situation arises they will respond in the way they have been trained.
ii. When the body of Christ is not in the place of faith it panics.
b. Hebrew--`amad —
i. to stand, to remain, to endure, to take one's stand
ii. to stand still, to stop (moving or doing), to cease (To cease from works or working)
iii. to make a stand, to hold one's ground (from The Online Bible Thayer's Greek Lexicon and Brown Driver & Briggs Hebrew Lexicon, Copyright © 1993, Woodside Bible Fellowship, Ontario, Canada. Licensed from the Institute for Creation Research.)
c. To stand still is to say we are not panicking.
i. Ex 14:13 And Moses said to the people,"Do not be afraid. Stand still , and see the salvation of the LORD, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever. NKJV
ii. Job 37:14 "Listen to this, O Job; Stand still and consider the wondrous works of God. 15 Do you know when God dispatches them, And causes the light of His cloud to shine? NKJV
iii. Heb. 5:14 “who through reason of use have trained the senses to discern…” Ie. Soldiers on a battle field who fall on grenades to save fellow soldiers.
iv.
3. Believe
a. Believe—Hebrew—aman—to stand firm, trust, believe.
b. Isa 26:3-4 You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You. 4 Trust in the LORD forever, For in YAH, the LORD, is everlasting strength. NKJV
c. Be established is the same word used for believe in this verse. In this tense and context it means to be support to stand firm.
d. Prosper—the Hebrew word means to advance, make progress, succeed or prosper.
